Explore Chiapa de Corzo
Chiapa de Corzo, colonial place filled with tradition and culture, marked by the warmth of its people, is one of the most beautiful cities of the state of Chiapas; its value comes from its history, due to the fact that this was the first city founded by the Spanish during the XVI century. It is also named Magical Town and main entrance to the Sumidero Canyon.
In Chiapa de Corzo stands out the mudejar construction formed by La Pila, a refined fountain made with brick, unique in Ibero America; the Temple of Santo Domingo and the adjacent former Convent, as well as the ruins of the temple of San Sebastian.
Chiapa de Corzo also shines for its exquisite gastronomy, highlighting: the baked pig, typical sweets (suspiros, chimbos, nuegados) and its traditional drink called “pozol”; all of them with very peculiar flavors that will delight your palate. When it comes to artisanal richness, the shellac wood and embroideries works show the colorful regional suits of the Chiapanecan people and the Parachico, a dance recently designated Cultural Heritage of the Humanity by the UNESCO.
